Former World No. 1 Maria Sharapova, the three-time Grand Slam champion and 2006 BNP Paribas champion, is one of the most-recognized athletes in the world. The incredibly talented 21-year old has already captured 19 titles in her short career on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, but this past summer she suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery. She intended to heal in time to defend her Australian Open title, but she had to withdraw from the event because her shoulder still was not in playing shape. Many are wondering if the big-hitting, big-serving Russian will be able to return to her championship form, and they will find out in Indian Wells. She has entered the event, and is planning to play, so everyone will find out if the starlet can dazzle once again.

The tournament which will start March 11th includes most of the top players with the exception of the Williams sisters.
