The Australian Junior Davis Cup team has defeated Great Britain to win the Junior Davis Cup for the second time in three years.
Andrew Bettles for Great Britain got his team off to a flying start, defeating Luke Saville (SA) 6-4 6-4.
Jason Kubler (QLD) managed to level the tie, fighting back strongly and holding on to defeat George Morgan 7-6 7-5.
After two tight singles matches the first set of the doubles was much more one-sided, with Kubler and Joey Swaysland (NSW) putting on a superb display to take the set 6-1. Great Britain fought back in the second but the Aussies prevailed 7-5.
Australia has reached the final of this event (formerly known as World Youth Cup) seven times since 1985, winning five times, most recently in 2007. This is the first time Great Britain has reached the final.
“This is fantastic news,” Tennis Australia’s Director of Tennis Craig Tiley said today.
“Winning Junior Davis Cup for the second time in three years, and with a different team, shows a great future for Australian Tennis.
