Kim Clijsters will play in just 2 events in the remaining months of the 2009 season. The first is next week’s Luxembourg Tournament where she played her first WTA event as a teenager.
In the first round of the Luxembourg WTA tournament Kim plays the American wild card Meghann Shaughnessy.
Kim (WTA 18), the second seed, has played Shaughnessy (WTA 559) already six times. The Belgian player won four times.
In the first round as well Yanina Wickmayer (WTA 24) plays the Rumanian Alexandra Dulgheru (WTA 53). Wickmayer, who could play Kim only in the final, has won her only game against Dulgheru on the clay of Saint-Gaudens (6-4, 6-4).
Kim and Wickmayer might be accompanied in the main draw by Kirsten Flipkens (WTA 85). In the second qualifying round she has to get past the French Estelle Guisard (WTA 292) first.
