Radwanska loses in her bid to qualify for Doha.

maria-kirilenko-photo-22Kim Clijsters won her first match since capturing the U.S. Open, defeating Meghann Shaughnessy 6-2, 6-2 Tuesday to reach the second round of the Luxembourg Open.

Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, who lost to Clijsters in the final in New York, retired when leading Anne Kremer of Luxembourg 7-5, 5-0. She received treatment for her left leg and back.

Kremer was a late replacement for American teenager Melanie Oudin, who withdrew hours before her first match because of illness.

In Moscow Maria Kirilenko was a surprise winner over Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 6-3. This was a  first time win over a top ten player in living memory for Kirilenko, and the win ends Radwanska’s bid to be the eight player to qualify for Doha.

Flavia Pennetta was forced to retire when leading 6-3, 3-0 in a later match.
