With the forced withdrawl of Yanina Wickmayer from the tournament much of the interest has waned in the event. The buzz is more about the harshness of the suspension than on the tennis in Bali.
However, Marion Bartoli, the #1 seed beat Shahar Peer 6-3 6-2, so with Wickmayer’s withdrawal the four semi-finalists are Marion Bartoli, Maria Jose Sanchez Martinez, Aravane Rezai and Kimiko Date Krumm.
In the biggest upset so far, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez beat the #2 seed Samantha Stosur 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 to reach the semi-finals.
In the other goup Sabine Lisicki beat Melinda Czink 6-2 6-7(1) 6-4 to finish the day’s play.
