Fernando Verdasco and Nikolay Davydenko both took a step closer to the ATP World Tour Finals with wins in Paris on Tuesday.
Both men won their second-round matches at the BNP Paribas Masters, where they are bidding to seal their places in the elite eight-man field for the London tournament.
Verdasco fought his way to a 6-7 (3/7) 6-4 6-4 victory over Andreas Seppi – a result which eliminated Marin Cilic and Radek Stepanek from the London race.
Earlier in the day, Davydenko, currently in the seventh qualification position, eased his way past Benjamin Becker, winning 6-2 6-1 and holding serve throughout the contest.
Robin Soderling, Fernando Gonzalez and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are now the only other players for can qualify for London – and each needs to reach the final in Paris to stand any chance of overhauling Davydenko and/or Verdasco.
