It’s not confusing!…..Murray, you lost!
by bahamaderek on Nov.27, 2009, under Andy Murray, Roger Federer, del Potro
Murray admits he is confused by the score! Sorry but it’s not complicated, my 8 year old figured it out, if you’re tied in matches the winner is the one who won the most games! Simple arithmetic! Murray’s website even suggests that Federer threw his service game….let’s not go there, and I hope the suggestion did not originate with Murray.
Today’s Group B matches might wind up as close as those of yesterday, and someone might imply that Soderling threw his match if he loses to Davydenko.
When the verdict arrived that Del Potro and Federer had qualified, with Murray edged out by the tighest of margins, the world No 5 lifted his arms in the air before later reflecting on the evening’s events.
“This is sport. Just two players have to qualify,” he said.
“It’s difficult to do the numbers because Roger, me and Murray won two matches, and unfortunately Murray – he’s out. So it’s strange for us, but we like it.”
“Anyone know what’s going on? I think I’m audi (out) but the rules aren’t worded too well,” Murray had posted on his Twitter page.
Even world No 1 Federer was clueless as to whether he had made it through to the last four.
“I asked Juan Martin myself at the net, Did you make it or not? He said, ‘I don’t think so’. So that’s the story I got.”
Federer said he was in the locker room, having a doping test, “showering, stretching and stuff” when news that he had also qualified for Saturday’s semi-finals came through.
“With the other two guys, it’s quite incredible. I am surprised it came down to a couple games.
“There are certain rules and these are the rules. Sometimes unfortunate, sometimes fortunate. These times are very hard for Murray, who didn’t get through. But he got so close.
“How can we imagine that we all play three sets and it comes down to a couple of games?
“Del Potro beat the number one player in the world, and I guess also deserves to go through. There’s only two places, and that’s the way it is. It happens very, very rarely.
“It definitely was quite a rollercoaster match for the ones who were there with the calculators.”
