Serena Williams re-confirmed her commitment to January’s Medibank International Sydney and will begin the 2010 season in Australia. The 11-times Grand Slam Singles champion was cleared by the Grand Slam Committee to play at the Medibank International Sydney and defend her title at the Australian Open.
The American said she was looking forward to heading back to Sydney in early January to lead a field that is expected to include at least eight of the top ten women in the world.
“I really enjoyed my time in Sydney this year and I am really looking forward to being back there in just a few weeks time. It’s pretty amazing how quickly the year comes around,” Williams said.
“Once again it is going to be a great field and I am really happy to part of that. I look forward to seeing so many of my Australian fans in Sydney”.
Tournament Director Craig Watson said he was pleased that the US Open incident had been resolved and is looking forward to welcoming the world No. 1 back to the Medibank International Sydney for the second consecutive year.
“Serena is a genuine superstar in world sport and we are delighted that she has re-confirmed her commitment to the Medibank International Sydney,” Watson said.
