Playing in the US Open final is no match for beating Venus Williams on home soil, said US Open champion Kim Clijsters after she bea
t the American in an exhibition tournament this morning (AEDT). The main event of the evening was the clash between Kim Clijsters and Venus Williams. right before that Yanina Wickmayer received a round of applause from the audience. “If you’ll be cheering as loud as this next year, I’ll definitely be taking part”, she promised, visibly moved.
Belgian Clijsters, playing her first competitive match in her home country since returning to the game this year, beat the world number six 6-1, 7-5 at the Diamond Games exhibition match in Antwerp in front of a sell-out 14,000 crowd.
