Anastasia Rodionova and Samantha Stosur have given Australia a commanding 2-0 lead over Ukraine at the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off tie in Kharkiv.
In the first rubber, Anastasia Rodionova, who was making her Fed Cup debut after only gaining Australian citizenship in December, completed a remarkable comeback to claim a 06 63 75 win over Alona Bondarenko.
Rodionova lost the opening seven games against the world No. 25, but rallied in the second set to level proceedings before clinching victory in the decider, after serving for the match for a second time.
Samantha Stosur then put the away team firmly in the driving seat with a comprehensive 63 60 victory against Mariya Koryttseva. The world No. 10 trailed 03 in the first set, but astonishingly won 12 straight games to leave the Aussies with one foot in next year’s World Group.
