Does tennis need a poet named Matt?

Or is it a Wimbledon ruse that will fall flat?

‘Cos when Federer serves

and Rafa deftly swerves,

It’s poetry in motion.. what’s wrong with that?

                                    —

Nothing seems to rhyme with Wimbledon

Except swan, gone and masterdon.

So Venus and Serena can feel safe

From my under-the-skin comments that could chaffe,

Unless they greet the Queen with, “Is that a WalMart dress you have on?”

                                   —

If you’re better than Matt with your verse,

And your submission is clean, not perverse.

I’ll post ‘em right here

For all to read without fear

Then we’ll judge, confer and converse.
