The singles main draw of the Collector Swedish Open Women was announced on Saturday, top seed Flavia Pennetta, who is currently No. 10, takes on Swedish wild card Anna Brazhnikova, who makes her debut on the WTA circuit this week. The Italian comes straight from a semifinal appearance in the Wimbledon doubles draw.

The No. 2 seed, France’s up-and-coming star Aravane Rezai, who plays in Båstad for the first time, takes on American Lilia Osterloh in her first match. And third-seed Lucie Safarova from the Czech Republic will take on a qualifier.

Sweden’s No. 1, Sofia Arvidsson, seeded No. 7 this week, faces Anna-Lena Groenefeld from Germany.

“It’s a better draw than last year, that’s for sure,” says Arvidsson. “I don’t know that much about her, apart from the fact that she’s been injured and came back in time for Wimbledon. She’s a good player, who’s been in the Top 20, so I’m expecting a tough match,” she continues.

Johanna Larsson’s opponent in the first round is Renata Voracova from the Czech Republic. The Swedish No. 2 recently broke into the Top 100 for the first time in her career, and currently sits at No. 85.

Wild card Ellen Allgurin, who reached the second round when she made her debut on the WTA Tour here in Båstad last year, meets No. 4 seed Gisela Dulko.

“I watched her play in Miami. She goes for the ball all the time and tries to get into the court. She’s a good player,” says Allgurin about her opponent. “I’m just going to do my very best, and try o win every point against her,” continues the 16-year-old Swede.
