Bellucci upsets Gonzalez to reach final.

Third seed Thomaz Bellucci ended hometown favourite Fernando Gonzalez’s run at the Movistar Open in Santiago and will face Juan Monaco in the final.

The Brazilian, ranked 35th in the world, lost the first set 6-3 but came back to take the second with a decisive break in the 10th game.

And he pushed on to complete a 3-6 6-4 6-3 victory in one hour and 54 minutes.

Second seed Monaco, from Argentina, had a much easier passage to the final with a 6-1 6-4 rout of Brazilian qualifier Joao Souza.

Monaco broke twice in each set and won 68 per cent of points on his serve to seal a routine 73-minute win.

Bellucci looking to upset Simon.

bellucciThomaz Bellucci began the year reaching the Brasil Open final for the first time, but eventually lost to higher-ranked Tommy Robredo. It was his first ATP Tour final, after a string of Challengers. But later, he would win his first title in Gstaad after beating local hope Stanislas Wawrinka, two-time runner-up Igor Andreev, and first-time finalist Andreas Beck in the second round, semi-finals and final respectively.

Bellucci is on a 10 game winning streak, and will meet Giles Simon of France on an outside court today. Both players were born in Decenber but 3 years apart. Simon who is currently ranked #9 has had an up and down year, and will have his hands full against the young Brazillian.

Bellucci wins his first ATP title.

Thomaz-Bellucci-August-2-celeb_2341909Brazilian qualifier Thomaz Bellucci won the first ATP title of his career at the Allianz Swiss Open in Gstaad.

The 21-year-old Sao Paulo resident beat Germany’s Andreas Beck 6-4 7-6 (7/2) in the final, following up his impressive semi-final victory over Russian third seed Igor Andreev.

Beck, the world number 51 who was also seeking his maiden tournament win, had been favourite against 119th-ranked Bellucci but was edged out in two tight sets.
